How to map

Create a node at the location of the poster_box. Then put the advertising=poster_box tag on it. You can add more details about it using these tags:

  • Technical details
    • support=* – generally not needed for a poster box, except if the poster box is hosted by a transit shelter, in that case add support=street_furniture:transit_shelter. If mounted on a wall, use support=wall.
    • size=* – the dimensions of the poster box itself (omitting its support).
    • height=* – the height of the poster box (including its support).
    • lit=* – is the poster box lit ? Generally it is not.
    • luminous=* – is the poster box luminous ? Generally luminous=yes.
    • animated=* – is the poster box animated ? By which method ?
    • sides=* – how many sides does the poster box have ? Generally sides=2.
  • Management
    • operator=* – the company operating the poster box.
    • ref=* – the poster box reference.
    • access=* – can everybody change the content of the poster box ? Generally no.
    • land_property=* – who is the owner of the land under the poster box ? Generally land_property=public.
  • Content and visibility
    • message=* – the kind of content shown on the billboard. Generally message=commercial.
    • display_surface=* – the surface dedicated to the display of message (without the frame), often 1.2 m width and 1.76 m high, then 2 m².
    • orientation=* – how is the poster box directed compared to people/traffic flow.
    • direction=* – how is the poster box directed (using cardinal points).
    • visibility=* – how far is the poster box visible ? Generally visibility=street.

Common sizes

  • DIN 683's "4/1 portrait"; 119 × 168 cm visible area (roughtly 4 ISO A1-sized sheets, hence the name)
