A [W] conservatory is a building or room having glass or tarpaulin roofing and walls used as an indoor garden or a [W] sunroom (winter garden).

Description

The tag building=conservatory is used for winter gardens, whatever type and size.

It does not mean greenhouses used to produce fruits, vegetables or cut flowers, which are tagged with building=greenhouse. These buildings are made mostly of glass. They have heating systems and the possibility of ventilation and cooling. Due to the air conditioning, tropical plants can often grow here.

Often they are built as a small size extension to an existing residential building. Comfortable inventory invites you to linger.

How to map

For a free standing conservatory: map an area and add building=conservatory. Usage on nodes is possible but not recommended.

If the conservatory is part of a building: Use building:part=conservatory as described in Simple 3D Buildings.

A conservatory can be found in the public space in castle, botanical gardens, historic orangery, hotels, restaurants, often as a café or in the garden centre. Optionally add the tags access=*, operator=*, operator:type=* and building:use=* here.

Conservatory in private building requires no additional attribute but you decide.
