A building that was built as a mosque.

Use building=mosque for a building designed and constructed for the five daily prayers of Islam.

Note that this tag does not indicate that the building is currently used as a place of worship. See 'How to map'.

How to map

Ideally, draw an area around the building outline. If that is not possible one may set a node instead. Tag it with building=mosque.

In almost all cases the tags amenity=place_of_worship + religion=muslim must be added to indicate the current use of the building. The exceptions would be buildings constructed as mosques that are now closed or used for another purpose.

The whole area or campus, containing the mosque, staff residences, madrasa buildings, etc. can be tagged landuse=religious + religion=muslim.

Tags to use in combination

Note that in OSM Carto building=mosque is rendered just like any other building. Rendering as a mosque (displayed below) is only triggered by amenity=place_of_worship and religion=muslim.
