|Tools for this tag|
Use tag landuse=industrial to delineate areas of land used for industrial purposes. Industrial land may include buildings like workshops, factories or warehouses and their associated infrastructure (car parks, service roads, yards and so-on). Occasionally several industrial tenants may occupy one property in which case the property itself may be known as an industrial park (eventually be tagged with a place=* tag like place=neighbourhood).
How to map
As an approximation, the area can contain the whole industrial zone together with parking lots and streets, but when represented in more detail, public streets are excluded (highway landuse).
- name=* (not applicable to all of them, but only a minority of these has a name tag)
- industrial=* Type of industry
For industrial sites involved in power generation see also power=* tags like power=plant, while other industrial features are mapped with man_made=*, for example a factory is tagged as man_made=works. Nevertheless, industrially used land (the land of the power plant) can also be tagged as landuse=industrial.
When not to use
This tag should only be used for land which is primarily used for industrial purposes. It should not be used sweepingly for larger areas containing industrial infrastructure at different places but most of the area as a whole not being used industrially (rather be more detailed and add industrial landuse to these parts only).
- landuse=depot for area where, e.g., vehicles are stored and maintained.
- man_made=works for a production site
- office=* – A place of business predominately providing services.
