A highway gantry is an overhead structure across a major road usually for holding signs, often variable-message signs.

How to map

Draw a line representing the gantry, using the base of the gantry as nodes and add man_made=gantry. Do not connect the gantry to the way it is crossing.

Tag the gantry with the tag layer=*. The layer value should be one greater than the road below it. A gantry over a road on ground level would be layer=1 and is the assumed default value.[1]

For objects mounted on the gantry, such as traffic_sign=variable_message or other objects such as signs and cameras, create a node at the relevant position on the gantry, and assign the appropriate tags. Opt

Type of gantry

Some mappers also specify the use of the gantry. Currently, three keys are commonly in use: gantry:type, gantry and gantry_type

Look at the respective Taginfo page for more information.
