Sailing is a sport encompassing various racing formats in which boats with sails are propelled by the wind.. This tag is used to mark a physical feature related to sailing, e.g. to indicate that a sports facility is for sailing.

Note: For recreational sailing boat rental, use amenity=boat_rental + sailboat_rental=yes, for shops selling recreational sailing boats use shop=boat + boat:type=sailing and for recreational sailing clubs use club=sailing.

How to map

Since sport=sailing is a non-physical tag, it should be combined with other top-level tags; e.g.:

  • natural=water - Any inland body of water, whether natural or artificial, that is related to sailing, usually water=lake, water=reservoir, water=river, etc.
