Used to mark streets which are part of a maxspeed zone Show/edit corresponding data item.

If a speed limit is bound to an area and not just to a way it should be tagged with maxspeed=* and zone:maxspeed=*. This tag overlaps somewhat with source:maxspeed=* and maxspeed:type=*.

The format for the values is <country code>:<limit type>". While it is similar to zone:traffic=* it should not be confused with it. I.e. a 30 zone can be in a rural or a urban traffic zone.

Country codes should be uppercase.

Austria
zone:maxspeed=AT:30 30 km/h zone, usually in residential areas. The Austrian OSM community prefers tagging such with maxspeed=* and maxspeed:type=* or source:maxspeed=* (see Key:maxspeed#Implicit_maxspeed_values). Error creating thumbnail:
Bulgaria
zone:maxspeed=BG:30 Means maxspeed=30. Used often in residential areas.
Canada
zone:maxspeed=CA-AB:40 40 km/h community or neighbourhood speed limits in certain localities in Alberta (e.g. Edmonton, Calgary, St. Albert). Such speed limits have been mapped, but tagged with maxspeed:type=* and/or source:maxspeed=* instead.

France
zone:maxspeed=FR:30 Means maxspeed=30. Used often in residential areas.
Germany
zone:maxspeed=DE:20 Means maxspeed=20; no (mandatory) cycleways; mostly no roads with right of way
zone:maxspeed=DE:30 Means maxspeed=30; no (mandatory) cycleways; mostly no roads with right of way

Serbia

On such roads you have to put two tags: zone:maxspeed=RS:10 + maxspeed=10
