Animal tracks

I just read this blog-entry about animal trails:http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/Pascal%20Cuoq/diary/13333 Tagging suggestions? (--Kerosin March 2011, signature added retrospectively by Rennhenn)

Hmmm... maybe discuss it in Talk:Tag:highway=path#Animal_tracks. I note that in some tight areas, the animal path might be quite permanent, as there is no other logical way to get through the mountain pass, etc. Jidanni (talk) 14:22, 7 December 2017 (UTC)

Pet Doctors

How do I tag doctors that heal pets? I like the other proposed animal=* values on this page. Could it be tagged as animal=doctors then? Kempelen 19:48, 1 May 2011 (BST)

You seem to refer to veterinary practice tagged with amenity=veterinary. Am I misunderstanding ? --Samusz 13:15, 26 July 2011 (BST)

amenity=vending_machine + vending=excrement_bags

If we are looking on the page DE:How_to_map_a there are several other and/or other tags.

Alternative Documentation:

in case of additional "bag-collector" the folowing alternatives are described:
As additional tags are described there operator=* (like here) and fee=*:
  • fee=* gibt an, ob die Tüten kostenfrei entnommen werden können.
Not mentioned are name=* and payment=*.

How should and could this be added - in the main page there is no "normal edit" possibility. I am not familiar with that.

--Rennhenn 07:13, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

By the way, "vending"(=selling) is not appropriate for dispensers (when it is free to take the bags) --Dieterdreist (talk) 09:12, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

Dog/Horse School

The German DE:Animal page also has a different approach for tagging schools:

Hundeschule / Reitschule

node area
animal=school
school_type=dog/horse
name=*
network=*
Bemerkungen:
  • network=* - Verband dem sich die Schule angeschlossen hat (BHV, BVZ)

Animal cafes?

Just wondering, to distinguish animal cafes - those that let paying customers interact with resident domesticated animals - from normal ones, would it be okay to tag amenity=cafe + animal=cat for a cat cafe, for instance? --Btcprox (talk) 13:19, 5 May 2017 (UTC)

Huh??? What do you mean with this novel "animal cafe" ? This very fuzzy, and you are probably mixing various situations and concepts, such as "pets accepted here", and "pets offered here for your pleasure", or "specific service designed for pets", or "service only for pets", or "vegetarian/vegan food here"... — Verdy_p (talk) 17:48, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
No really, there are cat cafes! The customers pay a cover fee that typically includes drinks, and get to spend time watching/playing with the cats. They're a hit especially in parts of Asia (Taiwan, Japan, South Korea etc.)! And there are popular variants that provide dogs or birds(even owls!) instead. --Btcprox (talk) 05:01, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
I know that they exist, but the tagging you propose is still ambiguous, I see no semantic relation between amenity=cafe and animal=cat. Suppose we have amenity=cafe with animal=beef. But even with amenity=cafe with animal=dog some would interpret it as "dogs admitted here" or "beware the dog!" and not "dog(s) present here"... I don't think that animal=* is the right key to use here, but some other "<role>:animal=*" key, such as "meet:animal=*" (what you describe for cats), "expose:animal=*" (no interaction, e.g. in an aquarium), "access:animal=*" (or "access:dog=yes", see other "access=*" related keys and values), "cuisine:animal=*" (see other "cuisine=*" for specialities in restaurants, see also similar keys for butchers and not using a bare "animal" key), "sells:animal=*" (see other "sells:*=*" for other products for sale), "servicefor:animal=*" (veterinary and animal care services), "danger:animal=*" (beware the dog!), "foodfor:animal=*" with an explicit role... — Verdy_p (talk) 10:46, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
Ah okay sorry, that's basically what I'm asking, whether there's a better way to tag an animal cafe instead of using a broad "animal" tag. Yeah I guess something like "meet:animal=*" may be the closest here. Sorry for the trouble --Btcprox (talk) 16:03, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
A cat cefe seems to be a special case of a Key:cafe. Perhaps add cafe=cat_cafe? Example: node 3442452659 --Hufkratzer (talk) 19:01, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
As far as I know there's no cafe key, and the other special case of cafe (the Internet cafe) went with amenity=internet_cafe. And I think it's more trouble to create another amenity with amenity=animal_cafe. Probably neater to just do amenity=cafe + meet:animal=*. --Btcprox (talk) 11:17, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
AFAIK, many (if not most?) cat (and dog?) cafes are adoption locations - facilitators - for local animal shelters/rescues. During business hours, shelter animals are released from their respective cages and cafe visitors get to interact with them in a cage-free, casual space (unlike caged shelter animals), where they can show off their personalities and potential adopters can see how they interact with other animals and people. Visitors don't adopt from the cafe directly, but fill out the shelter's paperwork, must meet their rules; that is, "animal shelter" tag for cat/dog cafe wouldn't be technically correct. --DougGrinbergs (talk) 06:06, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
Still no solution at 2022? I've found 3 cat cafes in my town, + 1 cafe with parrots. Cat café on Wikipedia is a good start point, but we definitely need some tag… --Vazhnov Alexey (talk) 11:30, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
Hi, I also know several such cafes, and they usually pay not for food / drinks, but for the time spent there (per minute or hourly payment). There is a tag for that:
amenity=cafe + cafe=time_cafe — cafe, where people pay mostly not for food and drinks, but for a period of stay in cafe
amenity=cafe + cafe=board_game — (presumably) a meeting place where you can play board games
I'm not sure about the tag for a cafe where you go to play with animals (cats/dogs/rabbits/…), I think it's a very specific tag or type of time_cafe. — Grass-snake (talk) 12:18, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

I prefer to use the theme=* for cafés, restaurants and bars, in the case of cat cafés then 'amenity=cafe' + 'theme=cat'. This also fits for restaurants and bars, where other more rarely seen variants like 'cafe=cat_cafe' or 'theme=cat_cafe' are not quite accurate. And the fact that it is a café can already be recognised by the amenity tag. If there should be a better tag, the entries can also be adjusted.claudia10 6:30, 23 August 2023 (UTC)

Pet friendly features?

How would you tag a facility where you can bring your animal (e.g. Hotel with dogs allowed), or also the opposite: not allowed to bring your pet? --Dieterdreist (talk) 09:13, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

Pigeon housing

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pigeon_keeping#Pigeon_housing needs a tag. Buildings for pigeons where the owner comes maybe once a week. Jidanni (talk) 07:47, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

man_made=dovecote does not match?

Neuter Clinics

Can we suggest having a animal neutering speciality like veterinary:speciality=neuter or may even other speciality or services like if a primarily if a veterinary is there and it has grooming services + a supply store
