wheelchair:centralkey=* or centralkey:wheelchair=*

Where we have a toilet block mapped as amenity=toilets, and where these toilets provide a wheelchair accessible toilet wheelchair=yes, but only the wheelchair toilet requires a centralkey, and the non-wheelchair toilets within the same toilet block don't require a central key, I'v used wheelchair:centralkey=* to indicate this. Thoughts? —Aharvey (talk) 02:20, 11 November 2025 (UTC)

Should be toilets:wheelchair:centralkey=* to show centralkey=* applies to toilets:wheelchair=* only. *:wheelchair=* would be used in general, but the meaning isn't accurate if you ask this. wheelchair:*=* isn't used, except eg wheelchair:description=* describe the wheelchair=* attribute, or wheelchair:turning_circle=* maneuverability of wheelchairs
But isn't centralkey=eurokey used in practice to mean this already? If the amenity=toilets + centralkey=eurokey isn't wheelchair=designated (have, or missing toilets:wheelchair=yes ), I would expect this to be the case. The definition doesn't seem that strict.
There are other problems that can be clarified. Eg access=centralkey isn't needed. At most access=permit should be used, to consider the need to apply for the central-key. fee=yes doesn't change the access=* either.

MapComplete uses a combination of centralkey=eurokey and toilets:wheelchair:access=centralkey to depict this. I can change it if a consensus is found --Pietervdvn (talk) 10:45, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
It's 2025, so you better ask on forum before creating a new access=*
Cf locked=yes is not the same as access=* either. access=key would be mixing up 2 different aspects, redefining access=* , and doesn't show whether it's restricted. Eg locked=yes can be access=yes if everyone can obtain and return the keys when using a public facility, or it's unlocked by a paying method. Key:locked#Examples
Related authentication:*=*

@Kovposch: Thanks for your comment. toilets:wheelchair=* would only apply when tagging the availability of toilets at a facility, eg shop=* + toilets:wheelchair=* to indicate the shop provides a wheelchair accessible toilet. When using amenity=toilets, at least in iD ticking the "Wheelchair Access" preset to "Yes" adds wheelchair=yes and not toilets:wheelchair=yes.

The reason I brought this up is for two scenarios

a) A toilet block (mapped as one amenity=toilets object) that provides male/female toilets (usable without a centralkey) plus a wheelchair accessible toilet (only usable with a centralkey).

b) A toilet block (mapped as one amenity=toilets object) that only provides a single unisex wheelchair accessible toilet and access only with a central key.

In A a non-wheelchair users without a central key can use the toilets, but in B they cannot. I was trying to work out how to tag both of these scenarios. Aharvey (talk) 12:32, 11 November 2025 (UTC)

Yes, amenity=toilets + wheelchair=yes is used to show it has an accessible toilet. But toilets:wheelchair:*=* would be used for attributes of its accessible toilet, eg toilets:wheelchair:grab_rails=* discussed in another proposal before.
centralkey:wheelchair=* can mean there is a centralkey:*=* for *:wheelchair=* , in referring to the amenity=toilets as a whole. It doesn't specifically apply to the accessible toilet only.
The wiki documentation and proposal doesn't provide any example using it. They should be discussed for how they fit together. Otherwise the implication seems to be you have to create another amenity=toilets + wheelchair=designated + centralkey=* separately, which seems to be the only usage the documentation and proposal have covered.
