Status

For me, fenced=yes and barrier=fence isn't the same. barrier=fence is physical feature, fenced=* is 'attribute' of some feature. Both tags may be used in parallel, as amenity=shelter and shelter=yes, amenity=bench and bench=yes, amenity=waste_basket and bin=yes. Something B (talk) 09:08, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

+1, compare discussion on this in iD --Hufkratzer (talk) 19:28, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Fence itself

Skippern wrote: This does not mark the fence itself, see barrier=fence

This might be how you want it to be now, but it is simply not true for historical reasons. --Cartinus 13:22, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Than shouldn't there be stated something that this should be corrected, and the intention is to use barrier=fence for the fence itself? Historic usage doesn't mean that it is the right way to do it. --Skippern 14:40, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Doubles barrier=fence

This tag is in double with barrier=fence. To avoid confusion and improve consistency, we should suggest mappers to no longer use fenced=*. Currently fenced=* is only used ~5.000 times whereas barrier=fence is used 650.000 times. --Oligo 14:54, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

The meaning difference between fenced=yes and barrier=fence is not clearly explained in the wiki page. I changed the page as I proposed above. --Oligo (talk) 21:01, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
