使用 bridge:movable=* 来说明某一具体活动桥（由道路上的 bridge=movable 和/或桥梁轮廓上的 man_made=bridge 标示）如何移动以让出下方的通航空间。请注意，此键也可以在不标注 bridge=movable 的情况下使用，以表示过去可移动、现已固定不可动的桥梁。
几乎所有活动桥都有一个、或至多两个活动桥跨，两侧为固定桥跨。道路应在活动桥跨的端点处分割，并且只对活动桥跨标注 bridge=movable 和 bridge:movable=*。如果需要，活动桥跨所依托的桥墩（通常由固定桥跨与活动桥跨道路相接的节点标示）可以标注 bridge:support=*。某些活动桥跨所绕之转动的桥墩（平转桥水平转动，升降桥和开合桥垂直转动）可标注为 bridge:support=pivot_pier，升降桥两端的支撑塔可标注为 bridge:support=lift_pier。
公路上的活动桥通常设有交通栏杆，也应一并标注，例如 barrier=lift_gate。若桥梁的开合有常规的启闭机制，可分别用 access:conditional=* 和 maxheight:conditional=* 标注桥梁的道路及其下方的水道。
