The key food=yes/no is used to indicate whether a feature provides food.

This is generally used on amenity=* features which do not always provide food, such as amenity=cafe, amenity=bar and especially amenity=pub.

Rarely it has been used with tourism=* features such as tourism=wilderness_hut just to indicate whether any food is available.

The tag food=no is used on places where you would usually expect an option for food, but there isn’t any.
