Buildings and addresses

Building and addresses information is valuable data for the OpenStreetMap map. Currently not many Spanish municipalities have this information, so OpenStreetMap Spain is promoting the import of some cadastral data. There is an active proposal to import buildings and addresses from the Cadastre.

Between April 2018 and November 2023, the 'import of buildings and addresses' was carried out in Malaga through such proposal.

To follow the import projects at the provincial level, check the section of ongoing projects on the Province of Málaga page.

Street map

Nearly complete by 2013 using Cadastre and survey on the ground. Reviewed again in 2018 according to the proposal to import buildings and addresses.

Road hierarchy

Map with the classification of the road network of Malaga according to the PMUS (2021)
Classification of the metropolitan road network according to the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Malaga (2021).

The reference documents for the hierarchical classification of Malaga's metropolitan road network are the General Urban Development Plan (PGOU, by its acronym in Spanish), approved in July 2011, the city's Mobility Ordinance, approved in January 2021, and Malaga's Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS, by its acronym in Spanish), approved in June 2021. The PMUS takes as a reference the road classification of the PGOU and the Mobility Ordinance. The road classification of the PMUS "in the short term" is assimilated to the road classification at the time the document was published (p. 384), so it can be considered as the most recent reference of the current road classification.

According to this classification, the metropolitan roads of the city of Malaga are classified according to the following categories and tagging:

Classification PMUS (PGOU) OSM Tagging
Red metropolitana (Metropolitan network), the road outside the city which connects the surrounding towns and which in Malaga coincides with the long-distance road (partially corresponding to the first-order roads of the PGOU). highway=primary or higher
Vías de segundo orden y primera categoría (Second order and first category roads), whose function is to channel traffic for access to the neighbourhoods from the main road to the local road or vice versa (corresponds to the second order roads of the first category of the PGOU). highway=secondary
Vías de segundo orden y segunda categoría (Second order and second category roads), consisting of the road that recovers centrality in the interior of the neighbourhoods, where it acts as the main road. It articulates the distribution of traffic destined for these and exits towards hierarchically superior roads (it corresponds to the second order roads of the second category of the PGOU). highway=tertiary
Vías de tercer orden (Third-order roads), streets with lower traffic intensity (corresponds to the third order roads of the PGOU). highway=residential, highway=unclassified or lower

The hierarchical classification of Malaga's metropolitan road network was completed in March 2024.
