Proposal

Miniature railways have track gauges starting at 2.5" (64mm), but does not include narrow guage track widths which starts at 3.5' (1067mm).

Miniature railways usually carry passengers, which ride on top of the carriages or in the case of larger than 7.25" (184mm) they may ride inside the carriages.

Miniature railways are found in parks, public/private gardens and can be tourist attractions in their own right.

Miniature railways are distinct from model railways which have a track width less than 2.5" (64mm) and don't carry passengers.

Rendering

Probably a thin black line with perpendicular lines along its length at very detailed zoom levels, and lower levels if it's particularly long. It could either be labelled with "Miniature railway", or that could be left to the mapper to add a name that gets rendered along it.

  • I approve this proposal. I know of 3 such miniature railways, 2 of which I could quite easily survey and add to OSM Rhubarb 12:33, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
  • I approve this proposal. I know of 2, including one I surveyed yesterday. --Delta foxtrot2 12:36, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
  • I approve this proposal. But I think that something like miniature_width should be added. Sarge 14:00, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. I do not think the description is any good. I had to read the discussion to find out what you meant by it. A much better description is needed to define the tag not to make confusion with the purpose of the tag and other possible meanings. --Skippern 16:13, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. Like this proposal. There's clearly a potential overlap with narrow gauge railways, but I think there's enough of a distinction to make it worth have separate taggings. As well as simply the obvious difference in gauge and scale, there's also a difference in purpose/use, in that miniature railways are far more for fun, and rarely for transportation, whereas 'narrow gauge' usually have some ostensible transportation purpose (even if they're fun too).
