Proposal

Various fashion accessories

The tag shop=fashion_accessories is used for shops focused on selling fashion accessories, such as bags, purses, wallets, costume jewellery, watches, sunglasses, hats, scarves, umbrellas or key fobs.

Differentiation from other shop tags

Shops that also sell fashion accessories, but they aren't their primary focus:

  • shop=clothes – clothes shops. They mainly sell clothes, but may also sell some clothing accessories.
  • shop=gift – gift and souvenir shops. These shops often sell clothing accessories, but also other items, such as postcards, cuddly toys, statues, mugs, or preservable food. In case of souvenir shops, the items are related to a particular topic or place.
  • shop=variety_store – variety shops, i.e. shops that sells inexpensive items, usually with a single price point for all items.

Shops that sell only one type of fashion accessories:

  • shop=bag – shops mainly selling bags.

Other accessory shops:

Other shops:

  • shop=boutique – small shops selling high-priced clothes and accessories. In contrast to boutiques, fashion accessory shops are for people with a normal income.
  • shop=jewelry – shops that sell "real" jewellery (made from or contain jewels and precious metal) instead of imitated jewellery.

Rationale

Currently there is no official tag for fashion accessory shops.

There is an undocumented tag shop=accessories with approx. 420 uses TagInfo shop=accessories, but it seems that it has been used for different accessories shops, including shops that sell accessories for mobile phones, cars, motorcycles, computers or home accessories. The proposed shop=fashion_accessories is unambiguous.

Examples

Examples of fashion accessory shop chains are Accessorize, I am, Six and Claire's.

Tagging

Same as for other shops: node node or area area.

  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. Just a shop=fashion is problematic so is shop=fashion_accessories, why not shop=clothing_accessories? Or will there be both of them? --Warin61 (talk) 03:45, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
There was a short discussion about this on the talk page. I finally chose fashion accessories because this is a common term while clothing accessories AFAIK is not and because accessories such as bags or umbrellas aren't really accessories to clothes. shop=fashion is problematic because it has never clearly defined and seems to be a duplicate of shop=clothes (except from specialised clothing wear like clothes=workwear|traditional|schoolwear|outdoor|...). shop=fashion_accessories however has a clear definition and is no duplicate. --SelfishSeahorse (talk) 09:45, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
Disagree. Bags, umbrellas can be taken as accessories to cloths. 22:32, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. In my opinion this was the definition of shop=fashion, but it seems that in other places it can mean something else.--AgusQui (talk) 13:13, 26 March 2019 (UTC)

  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. Wiki should make distinction to shop=fashion and shop:accessories. Also explain why fashion was used and not clothing (most users will not bother to read the old discussion page on the vote.) --ConsEbt (talk) 02:27, 4 April 2019 (UTC)
