The tag barrier=kerb is used to map a kerb (US English: curb), a short barrier for vehicles and wheelchair users, usually found at the edge of a road, path or sidewalk. The height of the kerb is important and with this information, the usage by different groups can be determined. The height of the kerb is tagged additionally as height=*, if available. Right side is bottom, left side is top.
See also kerb=*, which is used on the node of a way at the location of the kerb.
Usage
which gives ![]() |
Draw a way along the kerb line so that the lower level is to the right of the way, and tag it with barrier=kerb
A node can also be used on a highway, for example highway=footway, to show the location of a kerb across the path.
Rendering
Renderers and editors might indicate the lower side of the kerb (the right side of the OSM way) with small triangles pointing downwards.
