The value sidepath is used to indicate if a cycleway (or footway) is attendant to a street.

There are two use cases for this value.

Mostly on a sidepath

Used as footway/cycleway/path=sidepath in combination with highway=*cycleway/footway/path. The same holds true for highway=bridleway and bridleway=sidepath.

Note that the suffix :right/left/both is not being used in this case.

This tagging for cycleway=sidepath was presented by MENTZ GmbH

Compare: is_sidepath=*

Rarely on the main road

Used as footway/cycleway/path:right/left/both=sidepath on a "normal" highway=*.

This tagging is used mainly by the Lübecker Methode in the form of cycleway:right/left/both=sidepath

You may use cycleway=separate instead!
