Status: de facto

Shop focused on selling different kinds of coffee (coffee beans, powder, pods, etc.). amenity=cafe is a better tag for places like Starbucks which primarily sell coffees and related drinks

Note: "Coffee shop" is also a common way of saying "cafe". Mapping a cafe? Use amenity=cafe

How to map

Set a node node or draw the outline area of the building. Tag it with shop=coffee.

Useful combination

Examples

Coffee shop in the shop

Please note the rule One feature, one OSM element. And do not use amenity=cafe at the same time. Use instead drink:coffee=yes.

Similar tags

  • amenity=cafe - A cafe, which can sell you coffee in a cup ready to drink! Note: It's quite common for a cafe to also sell some coffee products at the counter. If it's primarily a cafe, then use amenity=cafe tag. On the flipside you might get a shop full of shelves and shelves of coffee and just a small cafe area. Then shop=coffee might be better, however you could also then map the cafe separately (See Tag:amenity=cafe#Cafes inside other shops / amenities)
  • shop=tea - A shop selling tea

Common Errors

If you know places with this tag, verify if it could be tagged with another tag.
