rental=boat etc?

Not useful IMO. Isn't boat:rental=yes more versatile and more used anyway? --floridaeditor 18:54, 7 July 2020 (UTC)

Only because there was an undisclosed mass edit of boat rental related POIs by RTFM toward boat:rental a few years ago that if I'm remembering correctly was reverted by Woodpeck and changed back again. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a thing right now. Most of the namespace tags of a similar vain wouldn't be. Since most were artificially boasted through un-disclosed mass edits. Before that rental was the clearly preferred and more used tag out of all the options. Although, mostly with rental=yes tags. For whatever reason, tags like rental=boat didn't really become a thing until after the namespace re-tagging occurred, but if there was exponential more uses of rental=yes on boat related POIs this whole time then anything more descriptive like boat:rental=yes then it was still the preferred tag for those things IMO. I mention it because one of RTFM's justifications for the mass edits and continuing to use the namespace instead of this is that rental=boat was never used much. Which is technically true, but intentionally miss-leading. Hopefully that explains it. --Adamant1 (talk) 19:13, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Okay, the more I think about it anyway, the better I like simple k=v format. Thanks! --floridaeditor 21:19, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Think about shops which rent several things and which tagging might ne more clear. btw. the "mass edit" is a wrong accusation while adamant himself tends to mass edit. He seems to try to avoid any namespace in general unless these are very widespread. Additionally there's a mess with vehicle namespaces, especially shop=car. If you look at the edit history, you may see that the edits are not appropriate for a clarification rtfm Rtfm (talk) 16:46, 11 July 2020 (UTC)
Wierd you say the accusations are wrong when anyone can look at your mapping history in OSM to see you've been reverted and blocked multiple times for it and specifically with this tag as it relates to boat POIs and boat:rental. Along with others. Whereas, I haven't, ever, at all, with any tag. But whatever. I know your nit into facts. Anyway, more on topic if the place multiple things the convention is to map it with a seperate POI. Or this is a perfectly fine use case for a semi-colon-value-seperated value. Either one would be better then the namespace or dealing with you. Whatever your rambling about with shop=car doesn't have anything to do with this. Otherwise you should be more specific about how it does, but my guess is it doesn't and your just deflecting. --Adamant1 (talk) 15:42, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

rental=small_electric_vehicle

There are places along streets where small electrical vehicles like scooters can be rented or parked after use. Such places are marked on mobile apps and not always on the ground. --Plamen (talk) 20:09, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

If there is no marking whatsoever on the ground it seems quite dubious. Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 21:16, 9 July 2020 (UTC)
Probability to find a vehicle there is quite high, so tagging could be useful. --Plamen (talk) 06:14, 10 July 2020 (UTC)
There's a few places like that around where I live for the Bird Scooter rental system. I guess they are called nests and they are usually an area just off the sidewalk where the scooters are. I've contemplated mapping them, but as already discussed there isn't usually a painted line or anything. You can tell that's what it is because it says so in the Bird app and there's scooters there. So I don't know. Of someone is going to rent a scooter they will probably use the Bird app to find them anyway since they have to. So, I doubt there's a use case for specific tagging in OSM at this point. Although, who knows longterm. I know for Bird they have an API. So a better solution might be integrate that stuff into an OSM app or online map as an overlay instead of specifically mapping them. --Adamant1 (talk) 15:50, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
