Lowercasing Headlines

Hello Mentor! Is there a reason why you change OSM Wiki pages just to lowercase some words in headlines? It is very common to use uppercase letters in headlines, hence I am a bit confused now... --Marqqs 11:08, 10 September 2012 (BST)

There are examples of titles both using title case and normal case (this happening in the same article is inconsistent, and very obvious to me). Given that the standard "See also" and "External links" seemed to be using normal case, I took that as the standard. Mentor 21:53, 10 September 2012 (BST)
Indeed normal case seems to be the standard in templates too. Mentor 21:57, 10 September 2012 (BST)
I agree with Marqqs, uppercase words seems to be very common in english titles. There are also many uppercase "See Also" around. Since this kind of thing would involve making a standard for all the english pages, I recommend starting a thread in the forum about this. --Jgpacker (talk) 13:01, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
When a standard has been decided on, I shall work to that. Until then I will not leave inconsistent capitalisation within headers in the same article. Mentor (talk) 13:32, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

OpenRoute- Service instead of OpenRouteService

Hi Mentor, your change is not really right: The name of the service is not "OpenRoute- Service", is it? Why did you insert a space? --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 01:12, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

The process of splitting up a word with a hyphen so it may be split for purposes including layout is known as syllabification or hyphenation. Is your issue solely the space? If so, I'm sure it's a problem that could easily fixed, isn't it? Mentor (talk) 19:31, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, well, sure, but you should not do manual hypenation. The browsers of the viewers could do if needed. If you would like to assist you at maximum could insert a soft hyphen. However, I would prefer to not do even this since it may be displayed in non-supporting browsers and complicates copy&paste of the names. --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 20:51, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Of the relevant use cases here, the table being readable makes complicating copy and pasting pale into utter insignificance, doesn't it? If you want to help out, at minimum, could be working on that. Mentor (talk) 02:24, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
You did not like my copy&paste example, so here are more: screen reader, in-page search (usual feature of browsers) for a program/service name.
Please remember that you are not editing a fixed format here (like a newspaper page). Our pages (and that table) is an electronic hypertext. The dimensions/sizes are not fixed. Please look yourself and de- and increase the font size in your browser (usually Ctrl+- / Ctrl++), you may see it in one line (depends on your browser and settings). You will notice that your hyphen and space even is confusing (in the case where both parts of the words fit in one line. --Aseerel4c26 (talk) 11:53, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Historic template not working

Hello Mentor, on Nov. 21 you have made some changes to Template:Map_Features:historic. Now, all the non-English versions of Map Features are broken, see for example Da:Map_Features#Turisme_.28tourism.29 (scroll down below the Tourism tags to see the mess). It's the same with the German, Swedish, French, Dutch etc Map Features pages, thus it is clearly the changes to the template that broke something. As I'm not too skilled in wiki templates I can't really see what has gone wrong. Would it be possible to revert back to the version before your edits? --polderrunner (talk) 13:11, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Ack On EV Page

I saw you message about the EV edits. Thank you. I'll take a look. Dr Kludge (talk) 02:30, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Broken page

Hi,

your recent edit of {{Map Features:route}} completely broke the translated pages. See for example the Czech or German page. Could you please fix it?

Thank you.

Chrabros (talk) 07:39, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

I take issue with the word "completely". I have properly documented the map features :key and :value parameters which were incorrectly documented or omitted beforehand. I have recreated what I believe to be the previously intended behaviour, but have also added a slightly simpler mechanism, with which I have updated the German and Czech route map features translations; please check it over for me. Mentor (talk) 02:18, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi, it seems to be working now. Thanks.
So as the result of your changes we can skip adding "|bicycle:value=Cs:Tag:route=bicycle" to the translated template, correct?
In general does this change reduce the number of function calls or increase it? I mean if the whole Map Features page would become easier for the server to calculate if all the templates would be adapted in the same way?
Chrabros (talk) 06:44, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
So, the {{TagKey}} and {{TagValue}}, in addition to helpfully formatting things, automatically find localised pages and, if found, link to them. One can also specify the language directly, but in this case the links do not fall back to other available versions (this is not unreasonable given the template usage). This also means that these pages do not need to be manually updated as new translation pages are added, eliminating that part of maintenance entirely. I cannot comment on performance issues, as I have neither privileged server information nor can I find any documentation or guidance on exactly which operations on the wiki constitute problems. Changes on shop page

Hi Mentor, I noticed you reverted my changes on shop pages.

Can you tell me why? Putting closing braces on a new line breaks line rendering on other language pages. --battarsa (talk) 18:32, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Otherwise extra newlines occur on pages. Mentor (talk) 20:36, 30 August 2021 (UTC)
Also, for the avoidance of doubt, it was you that was reverting my changes. Mentor (talk) 20:38, 30 August 2021 (UTC)
I fixed the issue for the rendering in a way that extra newlines don't occur. Check it out. --battarsa (talk) 20:59, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Edit descriptions

Please, describe your edits. It is fine to make many small edits but they should be described. See for example https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Tag:landuse%3Dreligious&action=history Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 04:32, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

Power pages quality

Hello, thanks a lot for precise and extensive edits on power pages. That's really useful for readability and adoption by anyone. We now have tidier wiki to read :) Fanfouer (talk) 17:25, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

Map Features Template

Hi, I noticed that you removed the newline in the template:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Generic:Map_Features:waterway&diff=0&oldid=2496245

Tell me, is it important for you that there are no line breaks? It's just that if I use this template in other languages, then the header design is erased and I can't restore the formatting:
Template:RU:Map Features:waterway

I don't know what to do in this case.— Grass-snake (talk) 06:50, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
