Summary

A key to tag all places that provide healthcare (are part of the healthcare sector). This tag will replace all healthcare things that use the amenity or any other tag, amenity=hospital would become healthcare=hospital.

Reasoning

This tag would be better than using the amenity tag for things that are related to healthcare. It groups all places that provide healthcare, GP's, dentists, hospitals, etc.
The whole healthcare sector is large enough to deserve its own key. This would for example make it easier for renderers that provide layered renderings, where you can select POI's.
It is also easier for taggers, as it provides a more logical and simpler structure.

How to Map

Create a node in the center of the building or property and tag it with healthcare=*
or add healthcare=* to to an area that has building=yes. If you don't know what kind of healthcare is being provided, you can just use yes.

Example

  • for a node
healthcare=yes name=John Doe
or
healthcare=dentist name=Jane Doe
  • for a building
healthcare=yes building=yes name=John Doe
or
healthcare=dentist building=yes name=Jane Doe

Comments

More specific tags like healthcare=GP or healthcare=dentist should be proposed under their own proposal or added to the features by popular usage. This proposal is just about the healtcare key.

  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal, we allready have tags for dentists, doctors, hospitals, etc, why another tag for it?. --Skippern 17:07, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. -- Pfr (Amenity tag is overloaded, there should be a way to differentiate between all kinds of clinics, hospitals and wards, also mental hospitals, geriatrics clinics, alcoholic clinics, carehouses and such. In Finland there is a specific administrative differentiation between hospitals and community clinics etc. Having all these under amenity isn't feasible).

By the wikifiddlers' own procedure, votes after this point should probably be ignored unless somebody can demonstrate that the voting period was extended. A historical entry in a mailing list archive would be sufficient proof to me, and would be enough in my book to override the complete lack of update to the template voteEndDate above which even now reads 2009-04-30. Ditto changes to the tables in Proposed_features. Will someone please prove me wrong? --achadwick 17:10, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
