button_operated=yes/no is used to indicate that some functionality may be activated by interacting with a button.
This is frequently used for the pedestrian call buttons associated with traffic signals that control pedestrian and bicycle crossings. It can also be used for automatic doors or similar features.
button_operator=only is used for rare cases, for instance when a crossing always has a red light on and will *only* turn green if a user presses the button. Please use with caution, because it may be hard to check whether the button is actually doing anything and it may even change during depending on time of day or other factors[1][2][3][4]. Stick to button_operator=yes in case of doubt.
For traffic lights, button_operated=yes should be interpreted as "there is a button that may activate something or do nothing at all" rather that it was confirmed that pressing button certainly has some effect.
