cycleway=traffic_island
is used together with a highway=*
to denote that this part of a cylceway is on a traffic island between two carriageways. The tag was never formally defined on OSM but has gained traction in Jan 2020 and is used over 2000 times since. Usage is implied like its sister tag highway=footway
.
Usage
Draw a primary highway key where cycling is allowed:
highway=cycleway
highway=path
withbicycle=designated
orbicycle=yes
highway=footway
withbicycle=designated
orbicycle=yes
Add a cycleway=traffic_island
onto this way.
If you have an already existing cycleway=crossing
, split this way at where the traffic island starts, remove all the crossing information and add cycleway=traffic_island
. Remember that if the crossing way is tagged with crossing:island=yes
, make sure to set it to crossing:island=no
which is handled by the cycleway=traffic_island
way.
