A horizontal bar (or “high bar”) is a fitness station which is designated for pull-ups or muscle-ups. There may be several bars in different heights for people of varying height.

How to map

Use the tag fitness_station=horizontal_bar on a node node or draw a way line where the bar is. In most existing cases, the main tag leisure=fitness_station was added, too. However, some users choose not to add it (maybe only in some cases), see note below.

Note (as of 2024/09): There seems to be no consensus (and no formal proposal exists) whether the leisure=fitness_station tag should be added or not in some cases (e.g. if there are several training devices in an area that is already tagged with leisure=fitness_station). Some users decided not to add it (for single devices) if there is a fitness station area with multiple nodes for each device – to treat it similar as leisure=playground and playground=* equipment, but this may not be an appropriate comparison (see also Talk:Tag:leisure=fitness_station). If it is just a single fitness station device that is located somewhere (e.g. in a park), it should certainly be added. And note that most editors, for example JOSM (internal presets), iD (Rapid), Vespucci and SCEE do not support the key fitness_station=* without leisure=fitness_station.

Tags used in combination

  • material=* – The material of the frame, e.g. wood, as the bar is almost always steel
  • height=* – Height of the bar, format e.g. 1.8 m
