amenity=drinking_water

amenity=drinking_water is used over 266 thousand times. You would need a very good reason to deprecate such a commonly used tag. I do not think there exists such a reason.

It didn't say this, while man_made=water_tap is "approved" with 23.7k instances. But Proposed_features/water_tap#Voting had opposition with similar reasons.
I imagine the man_made=* feature is used for the physical outlet to unify man_made=water_tap and man_made=drinking_fountain. The provision of water can be amenity=drinking_water and amenity=water_point for drinkable water, or amenity=fish_washing ( https://www.reddit.com/r/openstreetmap/comments/uhxabw/how_would_i_map_this_fish_cleaning_station/ ), or nothing yet for other purposes. Tag:man_made=water_tap shows amenity=drinking_water used together. When there are multiple outlets of some separation, this could be more elegant. This would solve the issue of avoiding creation of multiple amenity=drinking_water by bottle=yes to handle fountain=bottle_refill and fountain=bubbler in Key:fountain.

And conflict with such popular value should be also mentioned. In general it seems like amenity=drinking_water - just worse, as it is including also undrinkable water. Also conflicts with amenity=fountain Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 00:05, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Deprecate fountain=* values

There are many values of fountain=* that would fall under this tag. This proposal should deprecate values such as: nozzle, bubbler, drinking, stone_block, bottle_refill and all the specific drinking water fountain types. At this point this proposal should also declare that amenity=fountain only describes decorative fountains, I feel though that there are plenty of amenity=fountain tagged that are not decorative fountains.

Potential conflict/confusion

outlet=* is used for pipe outlets. --- Kovposch (talk) 13:04, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

In some sense, they are similar. Something B (talk) 13:07, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
amenity=water_outlet is less confusing than man_made=water_outlet? Something B (talk) 13:29, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
