Definition of this tag?

The page text says this tag is used for paths where you can "take off your shoes and walk BareFoot."

However, it's possible to walk barefoot on any path. What are the distinguishing characteristics of a path where this tag should be used?

Is there a name for this in another language? I notice that most of the features are in Germany currently. --Jeisenbe (talk) 05:25, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

I choose to not say you "must" take off the shoes, it's how things use to be true in case of a spa with this kind of path or "tracks" created as tourism attraction.
Yes, you can take off your shoes anywhere, but in this kind of paths you should have a controlled risk and more benefits...
I'm not an expert, but I did some research and linked to Wikipedia's page. In Italian probably would be translated in "percorso di barefooting", I cannot give a better definition.

I would think about using the standard highway=footway / leisure=track, with an access tag for barefoot in general. These are walking paths or kind of a minor obstacle courses, and running/hiking can be conducted in barefoot as well. For those pebble paths, a surface=* should be more appropriate. -- Kovposch (talk) 11:22, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
Aside from describing by the stone material in general, "reflexology" and "foot massage" path are used in Asia for such specific purpose (different from these European ones). -- Kovposch (talk) 11:22, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

In Germany barefoot paths are usually short paths that feature different surfaces and materials to stimulate the sense of feeling with your feet. See picture.--Hedaja (talk) 18:39, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

unsuitable tag value

“barefoot” is describing someone who isn’t wearing shoes. It is not suitable as a tag value for leisure. A better wording could be “barefoot_path”. My suggestion is to deprecate this before it becomes widespread, and encourage retagging to something more explicit. —Dieterdreist (talk) 13:48, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

It is still in very limited use, please retag to leisure=barefoot_path—Dieterdreist (talk) 17:36, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
If someone wants they can make a proposal for leisure=barefoot_path replacing this one Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 17:40, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
Still not very much use, still not a good name. —-Dieterdreist (talk) 07:53, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
