What are the PoliMappers Adventures?

PoliMappers is going to publish on its social media channels (Facebook user polimappers, Twitter user@PoliMappers) and on our Instagram page PoliMappers a simple challenge everyday for the entire month of December 2021, with the purpose of contributing to OpenStreetMap while having fun. The idea is inspired by the traditional  Advent calendar.

How to participate?

  1. Follow us on our social media channels.
  2. Read the instructions for the challenge of the day.
  3. Important: add #polimappersadventures in your changeset comment when you modify the OpenStreetMap database. (If you are a member of PoliMappers, please add also the hashtags #youthmappers #polimappers).

What about a nice walk outside? With Vespucci and GoMap!! you could take your outdoor mapping to another level: download the app and upload a changeset to OSM. Don't forget to put the #PoliMappers and #PoliMappersAdventure hashtag!

The quest for today is about mapping crossings! Map the positions of pedestrian crossings on streets using the Tag:highway=crossing Remember to use #PoliMappersAdventures in your changeset!

Community translations make information accessible to everyone in different languages! Help to translate a page in the WikiOSM or update an existing translation to help other contributors!

Do you know uMap? It’s an open software to create your costum map on top of #OpenStreetMap. Check out the Italian version (osmit-umap.wmflabs.org/it/) and share your result in a post with the hashtag #PoliMappersAdventures!

Find a building or an entrance and add the house number and the name of the street in which it is! Take a look at the documents for Key:addr!

December 7

Explore new field mapping experiences: try to use Mapillary and/or KartaView for collecting street-level imagery! After the upload of your sequences, you could update with new info OpenStreetMap! Remember to tag us and #PoliMappersAdventures!

Let's celebrate #PoliMappersAdventures together with your local community! Add a friend on OSM, look for the community of contributors in your area or welcome new mappers using the OpenStreetMap Welcome Tool! https://welcome.osm.be/

Help us mapping accessibility in OpenStreetMap! Find in OSM a place like a shop or a transport stop and update the tags Key:wheelchair You could also contribute to this quest using Wheelmap!

What happens if you would like to map and you don't have your computer? You can use your smartphone! Download and learn how to use MapSwipe! With one tap you can map!

The race to buy the latest Christmas gifts has begun! Map shops and what they sell using the tag Key:shop.

Add opening hours information to shops or places with the tag Key:opening_hours

Give humanitarian help! Log in with your OpenStreetMap account and contribute to a Humanitarian OSM Team task! https://tasks.hotosm.org/

Add the surface to a road, a step or an area using the tags: Key:surface. You can do it also with StreetComplete!

Having up-to-date and complete OSM can be crucial in different fields and topics! Help the community by completing information about specific topics in Map Complete: https://mapcomplete.osm.be/

Help saving lives using the Tag:emergency=defibrillator

Take your mapping skills to another level with an advanced editor. Download JOSM and try to map something new with it!

It's time to map a trash bin, but only those for unsorted waste ! Use the tag : Tag:amenity=waste_basket

Ensuring data quality in OpenStreetMap is a crucial step for keeping up-to-date and significant the entire project! Take a look at Osmose and help fixing data issues!

Let's play with another useful tool! Create a GPS track using the OSMAnd application and then upload it on OSM traces!

Have you ever explored the OpenStreetMap Wiki? Start creating your own user page and share it with us!

December 23

Map a bicycle parking using the tag amenity=bicycle_park and go into details with bicycle parkings ! Add the additional tags documented in bicycle_parking=*.

It's always great to learn how to map using a new tool! Try to complete a new changeset using the Osm_Go! application! You could download it on your phone or go to: https://osmgo.com/#/main

Support HOT work in humanitarian mapping world via donation! You could also contribute to their projects by mapping one of the tasks available on the Tasking Manager!

During one of your walk you noticed a drinking fountain not mapped on OSM? Use one of the app you downloaded during the #PoliMappersAdventures to map a drinking fountain using the tag: Tag:amenity=drinking_water!

Fix and close an issue/note. You can find them by activating the notes layer at zoom level 9 or higher on the OSM map.

Map a tree (and maybe more than one!) with the Tag:natural=tree
