Traffic island is used for an area representation of a traffic island – solid object in a road that channels or slows down traffic.
traffic_calming=island
is meant to be used as a point on the way itself, or tagged on part of the way. It should be only used in case of traffic island that slows down traffic.
How to map
Draw an area along its outline and add
area:highway=traffic_island
.
It is recommended in case it is a refuge island of a crosswalk to create the paths through the island by labelling the corresponding way with
footway=traffic_island
or cycleway=traffic_island
(depending on the highway
value).
