ATV route is a route designated primarily for ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) or OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) use. They are generally designated with a name by the official body that maintains them.

How to map

Create a relation with the relevant existing ways as members. If the ways (trails, tracks or roads) are not yet mapped, draw them and add to the relation.

Tag the relation as type=route + route=atv.

Tags used in combination

Note: Tags specific to a relation are only used on the relation, not ways.

• name=* - Commonly used name of the route, found on signs, boards, etc. Don't use a generic term or description.
• network=* - If the route is part of the local (lcn), regional (rcn), national (ncn) or international (icn) cycle network.
• ref=* - Reference number or code, found on signs or markers.
• operator=* - The name of the company, person or other entity operating a feature.
• colour=* - Colour normally associated with the route when presented on a map.
• distance=* - The distance covered by a route in km
• ascent=* - The ascent covered by a route in metres (meters). If a route has start and end points at different altitude, use descent=* too.
• descent=* - The descent covered by a route in metres (meters). Use it only if it differs from the ascent=*.
• roundtrip=yes - Indicates that the start and finish of the route are at the same location (circular route).
• website=* - The official website of the route, containing further information.
• description=* - To provide additional useful information about the route to the end map user which is not already contained in other tags.

"forward" means the route follows this way only in the direction of the way, and "backward" means the route runs only against the direction of the way.
