Differentiation between telecom=antenna and man_made=antenna

Please see communication=mobile_phone. Description for telecom=antenna is missing.

I have no clue, just found Proposed_features/Communication, Telecoms and the Telecom Category. But there are a few "de facto" and some similar tags. Should IMHO be consolidated.

According to taginfo, it sounds to be this import proposed by the Belgian community. There are some points to solve, antenna mapping isn't as easy. I'm pretty sure this import regards sites and not antennas. For instance, man_made=mast isn't similar to an antenna : I consider many antennas on a single site/tower/mast. Building next to cell towers

There is currently no value for such building. It's not an exchange nor connection or distribution point.

I'm looking for a value for telecom point of presence where network operators use to exchange traffic and host regeneration equipment with no computing capacities (it would be a data center instead). Fanfouer (talk) 22:30, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Well all I know is every cell tower needs a building next to it. So there are as many buildings as cell towers, so somebody should come up with a name for them.

Also if you peek inside them you will see they are filled with lots of boxes that look just like the personal computer under your desk. So it is hard to say what programs they are running: just "act like a relay" or "do even more".

Of course there are only people there once every half year, so it is not like a data center. Jidanni (talk) 03:44, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

I know those buildings very well as part of my last job was to seek for radio jamming or power supply reliability issues. We use to call them shelters just like any small technical building hosting telecom devices. To me there is no special terms to qualify such buildings despite hosted radio equipment is quite special indeed. The whole assembly {tower + building + fenced perimeter} is called a radio site, but nothing that regards the building only. Note that finding a building beside a communication mast is not mandatory. Currently, I've nothing more suitable than building=service + utility=telecom to put on the building. This situation could be solved in setup a proposal for a new, currently undefined, telecom=* value. Fanfouer (talk) 13:01, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

Normally these would be called "telco huts". They vary in size depending on size but some are literally 2m x 2m x 2m boxes (see photo). When my datacenter engineers were visiting these locations they were nearly always called "huts" (In-Line Amplifier (ILA) Fiber Optic Hut, Telco hut, Radio hut). Their only job is to keep the equipment dry and within the correct environmental constraints. Larger facilities would likely allow for different Telcos to transfer voice / data traffic. These are most often called POPs (points of presence). They can be as small as a Telco hut in urban areas (I remember one in Asia being above a food outlet in a room not much bigger than a studio apartment). --Dónal (talk) 16:26, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
