A wealth of information regarding railways and their prospective services can be, and has already been, mapped in OpenStreetMap

How To map
線路にはたくさんの種類があります。現状で関連付けられているタグを以下に示します;
Current
- railway=rail - Full sized passenger or freight trains in the standard gauge for the country or state.
- railway=light_rail - A higher-standard tram system, normally in its own right-of-way.
- railway=narrow_gauge - Narrow-gauge passenger or freight trains, often tourist/scenic routes. In some regions narrow gauge railways are used for full sized passenger or freight trains service. See the Rhätische Bahn (RhB) and Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) in Switzerland as examples for such full featered narrow gauge railways. Use gauge=* to specify how small narrow is for this railway.
- railway=tram - City based rail systems with one/two carriage vehicles, often share roads with cars.
- railway=monorail - A railway with only a single rail, often inner city and above street level. Also used for monorail-like automated people-mover systems like Miami's Metromover.
- railway=funicular - 斜面の鉄道でケーブルで動いている物。
- railway=subway - A city passenger rail service running mostly grade separated (see Wikipedia:rapid transit).
- railway=construction - 工事中の線路。
Historical
- railway=abandoned - The course of a former railway which has been abandoned and the track and infrastucture removed.
- railway=preserved - A railway running historic trains, usually a tourist attraction.
When modeling multi-track parallel railway lines in close proximity they can either be modeled as a single way with tracks=*, or as a number of parallel ways. If individual tracks have different tagging requirements (max-speed, electrification, gauge etc) then the tracks should be modelled appropriately. The tracks=* tag should be used to record the number of tracks with a default value of 1 being assumed where this is not supplied.
Track detail
As with highways, further details should be mapped where appropriate. Many of the value's associated with the keys, service=*, bridge=*, tunnel=* can also be applied to railway ways. Below is a list of the most commonly used;
Topographic
-
railway=viaduct- Split the way to tag part of it as a viaduct. See bridge=* instead.
- railway=buffer_stop - A node often found at the end of a track way, tagged to signify a buffer stop.
Service
- service=spur - 短い分岐線
- service=siding - 待避線
- service=yard - If the line is within a yard and not a main track.
- railway=turntable - 転車台のあるノード(node)
- usage=main - 本線軌道。
- usage=branch - 分岐線軌道。
- usage=industrial - 工業利用専用軌道。
- usage=military - 軍事専用軌道。
- usage=tourism - Tourist tracks.
Track Dissection
- railway=crossing - 踏切。
- railway=level_crossing - 踏切。
Track Specific
- electrified=* - States the tracks electricity supply type, often used in conjunction with frequency=* and voltage=*
Stations and Stops
Please see the main article about station tagging as it is beyond the scope of this guide.
Named railway lines
Sometimes, a long stretch of railway track (sometimes called a 'railway corridor') is known by a common name, or is given an official designation. Examples might be the 'West Coast Main Line' in the UK, or the 'Channel Tunnel'.
These should be tagged using simple name=* tags on the track ways.
Routes
In addition to correct tagging of the tracks and stations themselves, it is also be very useful to map the actual services that run upon these tracks. For this we use relations in the form of Railway Routes!
Explanation of railway=abandoned
The question is often asked, how do I tag so as to distinguish between different types of abandoned railway? For example, how do I tag an abandoned tramway? Shouldn't I tag it railway=tramway, abandoned=yes? This question reflects the mistaken belief that the railway=abandoned tag is intended to convey historical information: to describe the railway that once was there.
In fact, railway=abandoned usually describes a currently existing physical reality: the scar that is left on the land after a railway is removed. This generally consists of a series of embankments and cuts with culverts, bridge abutments, and other infrastructure still in place.
These features may be worth tagging for a number of reasons: They are often conspicuous landmarks; they help to explain the layout of surrounding streets; they are frequently converted into cycleways. Thus they have a high level of current relevance.
In short, an abandoned railway is a present physical reality. The railway it used to be (including its type) is not and consequently is not described by the railway= tag.
If you really want to describe the railway that used to be, devise a scheme for elaborating on railway=abandoned. But, use the railway= tag to describe the current status.
