highway=cycleway は、主に自転車用、あるいは自転車専用で使われる道であることを示します。自転車に限定しない場合は、highway=path の方がいいかもしれません。
サイクリスト間で、よいサイクリングルートについて合意が得られることはありません。Cyclists can seek out anything from only off-road routes to the quickest route on a multi-lane highway. Some want a flat commute, while others seek out hills for a recreational challenge. This is the strength of OSM. It can capture the cycling relevant data as possible, and each cyclist can choose the way that best suits.

マッピング方法
自転車道をタグ付けするには、単にウェイを作って、highway=cycleway を指定します。これは、その道が、自転車のために設計されていて、歩行者が通っても良いことを含意しています。(default Access-Restrictionsを参照). 制限事項を変更する必要がある場合には、access=*タグを利用してください。もし、この道路が名前を持っている場合には、タグname=*で追加してください。この道が、道路網の一部分であることを示したい場合には、Cycle routesを、完全なガイドとして参照してください。
このウェイに関する追加の情報は cycleway=* タグで与えることができます。The cycleway=* should as well be used if you already used highway=* for something else than cycleway and just want to mark a way that runs along a street.
特殊な状況
普通の自転車道ではない場合、以下のページをチェックするべきです:
