Motivation and Objectives

Why do you want to join the OSMF Board, and what do you hope to accomplish as a board member over the next two years?

Candidates: Roland Olbricht | Brazil Singh | Daniela Waltersdorfer | Md Atikuzzaman Limon

Roland Olbricht - Q01 Motivation and Objectives

I'm currently on the board and I'm standing for re-election.

While there have been and shall be strategic considerations, the most important task for the next board is to match the income side of the Foundation to the expenses. It does make sense to have a paid role to ensure reliability of the platform, and it does make sense to pay for development of the iD editor. Finally, the vector tiles are a major achievement. Everything else is relatively small or bare minimal administration.

In addition, I bring a core software technological perspective on the board. The board has diversified over time, and this is a major achievement. But it might get disconnected from technical realities if there are few or no people with deep understanding of the core platform on the board.

There had been various attempts to use the buzzword AI to advertise unhelpful tools to the Foundation, there have been people who brazenly strech trademark law to advertise their private project as if it were official. But there are also well-meant, even well-designed initiatives that would make the Foundation lose its focus. Acting as a worldwide imagery provider would, beside other hurdles, mean hundredfold or more hardware to operate than now which would turn the Foundation into a very different organisation.

The basic line of though is: wherever a board decision looks like to do X and to let Y figure out the technical details, I will weight in and either ensure that Y has volunteered to actually produce a well-defined artifact (and is plausibly able to do so) or to stop that decision. No hand-waving. In fact this is equally true of people skills than of technial matters, but with technical matters I might have more perceived authority.

Brazil Singh - Q01 Motivation and Objectives

My journey with OSM started as a university student mapper, and over the years, I have taken on leadership roles from training new mappers to coordinating projects across regions. I worked on some field mapping projects and when I saw how my contributed data is helping vulnerable peoples, I got more and more motivation to contribute to osm.org and OSMF. To run for the board I completed a course “Nonprofit Board Member Essentials” also I am already working on Communication Working Group and also part of LCCWG and this year working with the Global Sotm organizing committee and while working with those groups and communities, I get more motivations.

Over the next two years, I aim to:

  • Strengthen youth engagement at the OSMF – Drawing from my experience with YouthMappers and other youth networks, I will create more opportunities for younger contributors to learn, lead, and actively participate in the foundation’s work.
  • Strengthen collaboration and partnerships – I am committed to working with fellow board members to strengthen existing collaborations and build new partnerships within and beyond the geospatial sector, bringing mutual benefits to the project.

Daniela Waltersdorfer - Q01 Motivation and Objectives

I’m running for re-election because I believe deeply in the power of OpenStreetMap and the importance of the Foundation’s role in supporting it. OSM is not just a map—it’s a global infrastructure relied upon by countless organizations, companies, and individuals every single day. A day without OSM would be catastrophic for mobility services, humanitarian aid efforts, data analysts, and community mappers alike.

That’s why I’ve made it my mission to advocate for OSM, communicate its impact, and support fundraising efforts. I want to continue working closely with our existing funders and expand our partnerships to ensure the sustainability and growth of the Foundation.

Equally important is the time and space for Board members to settle in and learn. The Foundation’s operations are complex, and understanding how everything works internally is essential to making meaningful contributions. I’ve taken that time, and now I’m ready to build on that foundation to drive impact.

Community engagement is at the heart of everything we do. It’s not enough to make decisions from afar—we must listen, show up, and collaborate. Whether it’s attending regional conferences, responding to community questions, or amplifying voices through our communications channels, I believe in meeting people where they are and ensuring they feel heard and supported.

I’m committed to:

1.Listening to and learning from our global community
2.Promoting transparency and accessibility
3.Supporting chapters and mappers in ways that reflect their unique needs
Advocating for sustainable funding and growth

Md Atikuzzaman Limon - Q01 Motivation and Objectives

I am deeply inspired by OpenStreetMap’s mission to create a free, editable map of the world through community collaboration. My background in Computer Information System, Business Administration and Community Engagement drives my desire to join the OSMF Board to strengthen the foundation’s impact. Over the next two years, I aim to:

  • Enhance access to mapping resources, particularly for underrepresented regions.
  • Improve governance to ensure responsiveness to community needs.
  • Promote responsible technological innovation to support OSM’s growth.
  • Enhance build a sustainable OSM community

My goal is to foster a more inclusive, transparent, and sustainable OSM community, ensuring the project continues to empower mappers globally.
