Definition

A type of accommodation in the tourism industry, usually detached. The value chalet describes a [W] holiday cottage, holiday home or vacation home with self-contained cooking and bathroom facilities.

This could apply to single chalet or a group of chalets.

Not to be confused with the French term [W] "chalet" for privately owned mountain cabins, for them it is better to use building=cabin or building=house instead.

How to map

Set a node at the center of the chalet (or group of chalets) or draw an area along its outline.

Add tourism=chalet + name=*.

Tags used in combination

  • brand=* - the brand / association this chalet belongs to (probably a club=sport or similar)
  • operator=* - person, company or community responsible for the chalet (local operator)
  • addr=* - the address of the chalet
  • Contact information:
  • Internet access

Relationship to tourism=apartment

Between tourism=apartment and tourism=chalet is a clear distinction: Chalets are one or more detached holiday cottages which you rent exclusively, apartments are several flats in one shared building (or one flat in one part of the building and other usages, like private apartments or a restaurant, in the other part).
