KYTC-specific signs

Traffic signs in the Commonwealth of Kentucky follow the national Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), because the state has not adopted a state MUTCD or MUTCD supplement. However, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has codified some state-specific signs that it frequently posts within the framework of the national MUTCD. Many more signs are specified in the Traffic Operations Guidance Manual but not assigned an alphanumeric code.

A KYTC-specific traffic sign is mapped as a node tagged traffic_sign=US:KY:Z1-2, where "US:KY" is the state's ISO 3166 code and Z1-2 is the sign's alphanumeric designation.

Signs by section

As most of Kentucky's state-specific signs are not codified, any uncodified sign is listed separately in this section by the section of the Traffic Operations Guidance Manual in which it is described. As of November 2023, there is no set convention for tagging these signs, but a typical approach is to use generic keywords such as traffic_sign=regulatory in conjunction with secondary tags such as regulatory=* and inscription=* that describe the sign further.
