The key is_sidepath=* is used to indicate if a cycleway (or footway) is isolated or attendant to a street. The key is used as attribute on following ways: highway=cycleway|footway|path|track.

Values

yes: The path is attendant to a road

no: The path is isolated

Extension

Using is_sidepath:of=tertiary/primary/river etc. you may indicate what class of street the sidepath is attending.

You can also indicate the name of the main street with is_sidepath:of:name=* and the reference of the main street with is_sidepath:of:ref=*.

Usage Count

As of 2019-Feb-01 the tag was used on 2600 ways, on 2021-Apr-23 the tag was used on 4300 ways, 400 were tagged with is_sidepath:of=* and with is_sidepath:of:name=* extension. Since the beginning of 2021, this tagging has seen a significant increase in use, roughly doubling by the end of the year, and is now used by several users in many cities, mainly in Europe so far.
