Kiosk Substation Transformers

Known as a kiosk substation transformer or a pad mounted distribution transformer, these can mostly be tagged as s power=transformer + transformer=distribution. transformer=minor_distribution has much less usage.

Despite sometimes being known as a "substation" these shouldn't be tagged as power=substation as they typically just contain a transformer and don't include switchgear.

Low Voltage Network Pillar

A low voltage (LV) network pillar is a network connection point used in areas where the electricity supply via underground cables. The pillar marks the interface between the distribution network and the customer connection.

They can be tagged with power=cable_distribution_cabinet.

Basic tags

The following tags should be the same for all Telstra payphones.

• sms=yes - all Telstra payphones have sms function.
• fee=no - all Telstra payphones are free to use for domestic calls.
• fee:conditional=yes @ international - international and satellite calls are charged.
• payment:telephone_cards=yes - Telstra phone cards are the only way to pay for international and satellite calls. Other payment:*=yes tags are likely to be incorrect.
• payment:coins=no - Telstra ceased collecting coin payments in 2021.

Payphone-specific information

The following tags are specific to each individual payphone.

• phone=* - the phone number of the payphone. This can be found on the information board of the payphone as Payphone Telephone Number or by calling or SMSing your mobile phone from the payphone.
• ref=* - the reference number of the payphone. This can be found on the information board of the payphone as Payphone Identification Number.
• ref:location=* - the reference location of the payphone. This can be found on the information board of the payphone as Payphone Location. It is often a full or partial address, or can contain additional information about the location of the payphone.
• object:housenumber=* and object:street=* - the parsed address of the payphone. This is based on the Payphone Location on the information board. object:street should exactly match a nearby street name in OSM without abbreviations, and can be used to tag the correct address if the information board uses an outdated street name, contains typos or has additional information. These tags should not be used if the information board shows an invalid address.

Wi-Fi and charging

• internet_access=no - Telstra payphone with no free Wi-Fi.

or

• internet_access=wlan - Telstra payphone with free Wi-Fi.
  • internet_access:ssid=Free Telstra Wi-Fi - the SSID or Wi-Fi network name. Telstra Air is the old SSID, which was changed to Free Telstra Wi-Fi in 2022. It is OK to change these to Free Telstra Wi-Fi if the SSID was tagged before this change. If you come across a payphone that continues to use the old network name, add a note=* and tag not:internet_access:ssid=Free Telstra Wi-Fi.
  • internet_access:fee=no - Telstra Air was replaced by Free Telstra Wi-Fi and became free to use in 2022.
• power=outlet - if there is a charging port, otherwise leave this out.
• socket:device:USB-A=* - specify the presence of a USB-A charging port with yes and the absence of it with no.
• socket:device:USB-C=* - specify the presence of a USB-C charging port with yes and the absence of it with no.

Cabinet

• covered=no - a payphone that is not covered.

or

• covered=yes - a payphone that is covered but not in a booth. This includes non-walk in cabinets.

or

• covered=booth - a payphone that is covered and is in a booth.
  • booth=* - specify the cabinet type.
• cabinet:model=* - specify the cabinet type.

• wheelchair=* - specify whether the payphone is wheelchair accessible. Some cabinet types are not wide enough to support a wheelchair user, and some are mounted quite high. Additionally, some payphones are mounted at a much lower height for accessibility reasons.

Other tags

• check_date=* - it is good practice to record the date the payphone was surveyed, as the network is actively maintained. Payphones may be moved, removed, or have additional features like wi-fi or USB charging added to them over time. Tagging the check date makes maintenance easier.

TriTel payphones

TriTel is a defunct payphone operator. Any mapped TriTel payphones should be using the abandoned:*=* lifecycle prefix.

Previously it was suggested to use man_made=mast + tower:type=ventilation + ( utility=sewerage or substance=sewage ) and this still exists in some locations https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/1YHR, however it is considered deprecated.

Usually either tower:construction=guyed_tube or tower:construction=freestanding.
