Η ετικέτα building χρησιμοποείται για να δηλώσει ένα κτήριο. Στο OpenStreetMap, κτήριο χαρακτηρίζουμε μια ανθρωπογενή κατασκευή με οροφή. που βρίσκεται λίγο πολύ μόνιμα σε μια θέση.

Η πιο βασική χρήση είναι το building=yes, αλλά η τιμή μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί για να κατάξουμε το (αρχιτεκτονικό) τύπο του κτηρίου. Σημειωτέον ότι ο τύπος μπορεί να μην ταυτίζεται με την τρέχουσα χρήση του κτηρίου (που ταγκάρεται με building:use=*). Για παράδειγμα, ένα νοσοκομειακό κτήριο που έχει εγκατελειφθεί ή επαναχρησιμοποιηθεί ως αγορά εξακολουθεί να είναι building=hospital, και για να ταγκάρουμε ενεργά νοσοκομεία χρησιμοποιούμε amenity=hospital.

Πώς να χαρτογραφήσετε

Δημιουργήστε ένα κόμβο ή σχεδιάστε μια περιοχή χρησιμοποιώντας το περίγραμμα του κτηρίου. Ταγκάρετε με building=*.

Χρήση

Σημείωση για την χρήση της ετικέτας σε κόμβους: αν και τα κτήρια αναπαριστούνται καλύτερα μέσα από το περίγραμμά τους (με κλειστή γραμμή, ή πολυπολυγωνική σχέση), η δουλεία στο OSM γίνεται σταδιακά και σε ορισμένες περιοχές του κόσμου δεν υπάρχουν καλές αεροφωτογραφίες ή δημόσια σύνολα δεδομένων που προσφέρουν ίχνη κτηρίων. Για αυτό λοιπόν, τα κτήρια ως κόμβοι είναι αποδεκτά μέχρι να βρεθούν καλύτερες πηγές δεδομένων.^[1]
